第八辑 把心带回家 Volume 8: Bringing the Mind Home
初学者会认为禅坐的时候绝不可以有任何的思想和情绪,当思想和情绪出现的时候,他们就会变得懊恼起来,认为自己失败了。
Beginners may think that when they meditate, there should be no thoughts and emotions at all; and when thoughts and emotions do arise, they become annoyed and think they have failed.
事实绝非如此。只要你还有心,必然就有思想和情绪。就好像大海有波浪、太阳有光线一样,心的光芒就是它的思想和情绪。
However, this is not the case. As long as you have a mind, there will be thoughts and emotions. Just as the ocean has waves or the sun has rays, so the mind's own radiance is its thoughts and emotions.
当然,这思想不一定是无明的,当思想、杂念、情绪减弱、减慢了,心还是会起作用的,心的光芒就慢慢会转变成智慧。
Of course, thoughts are not necessarily deluded. When thoughts, distractions, and emotions weaken or slow down, the mind is still working, but its radiance gradually transforms into wisdom.
识别减少了,智慧会增加起来,识转成智:第六识可以转成妙观察智,这个妙观察智也是心的作用;
As discrimination diminishes, wisdom increases. The consciousness turns into wisdom. The sixth consciousness turns into the discriminating wisdom, which is also the mind's function.
第七识(我执)就转成了平等性智,它可以把我执转掉——
The seventh consciousness (self-attachment) turns into the wisdom of equality, which can transform self-attachment.
原来我们这个我执一直在那里、执著有我,你通过观修、我执去掉以后,第七识就转成了平等性智了,它还在起作用,有心就必然有它的作用;
Previously, our self-attachment is always there, clinging to the existence of a self. After eradicating self-attachment through meditation, the seventh consciousness will turn into the wisdom of equality. It's still working, as where there is a mind, there is bound to be its function.
当第八识(根本无明)被勘破的时候,真心就会显露出来;即使到了真心现前,也还是会起作用,
When the eighth consciousness (the fundamental ignorance) is penetrated, the true mind will appear. But even when the true mind appears, it's still functioning.
这个真心起作用叫“真空妙有”。真空一定会起妙有的,真空、妙有也是不二的。
The functioning of the true mind is called "wondrous existence in true emptiness". True emptiness will definitely give rise to wondrous existence. True emptiness and wondrous existence are non-dual.
顽空起不了妙有,不是真空生起来的有就是妄有、颠倒有,也叫幻有,
Mere nothingness cannot give rise to wondrous existence. Those that don't arise from true emptiness are false existence, deluded existence, also known as illusory existence.
都不是自性的真实妙用,都是夹杂着无明,所以它也起作用,它这个作用就是妄有、颠倒有、幻有,所以说它也起作用。
They don't arise from our true nature. They are mixed with ignorance, so it's also functioning. The function is false existence, deluded existence, and illusory existence. Hence, it's still functioning.
“就好像大海有波浪、太阳有光线一样。” 大海有波浪,却不被波浪所干扰。我们的自性也是这样的,心性虽然有它的妙用,但是它并不会被妙用所干扰。
"Just as the ocean has waves or the sun has rays." The ocean has waves, yet the ocean is not particularly disturbed by them.
Our true nature is also like this—the nature of the mind has its wondrous uses, yet it is not disturbed by these wondrous uses.
波浪是大海的本性,只要有大海必然有波浪,波浪生起来,它肯定最后回归大海,波浪来自大海,也是回归大海。
The waves are the very nature of the ocean. Where there is an ocean, there are bound to be waves. When waves arise, they eventually return to the ocean. Waves arise from the ocean and return to the ocean.
我们的思想也是一样的,妙用也是从真空中生起,最后又回归真空中去。妙用无穷,佛菩萨起一切相、起一切妙有。
Our thoughts are also the same—the wondrous uses arise from true emptiness and ultimately return to it. The wondrous uses are limitless. Buddhas and Bodhisattvas can manifest all forms and all wondrous existence.
这个“妙有”不是“三有”,轮回的“三有”乃是众生的心起作用显现的;
妙有从真心中来,没有一点无明、没有一点执著显现、幻化出来。
This "wondrous existence" is different from the "three realms of existence" in samsara, which arise from the functioning of sentient beings' minds.
The wondrous existence arises from the true mind in an illusory way, without any ignorance or attachment.
佛菩萨有千百亿的化身,还有无量庄严的佛土、净土,还有报身,这都是佛的妙有的展现。
Buddhas and Bodhisattvas have countless emanation bodies, countless majestic pure lands, and bliss bodies (sambhogakaya), all of which are the manifestations of their wondrous existence.
凡夫的我执坚固,法执也坚固,业障、烦恼障、所知障,使得我们不能自由地展现、自由地变幻,被业力所牵制,
Ordinary beings have strong attachment to self and phenomena, as well as karmic obstacles, afflictive obscurations, and cognitive obscurations. They prevent us from freely manifesting and transforming, and keep us bound by karma.
所以无量的苦苦、坏苦、行苦身不由己地就生起来,也会产生各种各样的分别、妄想、妄念,乃至造业。
As a result, immeasurable suffering of suffering, suffering of change, and pervasive suffering arise beyond our control. Various discrimination, delusions, and scattered thoughts arise, even leading to creating karma.
